“That’s okay too.”

Mutt seemed to agree with all this, nodding slightly as he chewed on the boot.

“It’s settled then,” Poo-Poo said. He gave his body a quick shiver and shake, preparing to leave. Karen and Stripes took a couple of steps toward the pipe’s opening. Mutt stopped chewing on the boot, dropped it, and stood up.

“Poo-Poo, can I ask you something about giants before we leave?” Stick Dog asked. “I just want to make sure I know what I’m looking for—and you seem to know a lot about the subject.”

“Of course,” he answered. “But let’s make it quick. We are about to go giant hunting, you know.”

“Okay, I will,” Stick Dog replied, picking up the pace of his words a bit. “Giants are really big humans, right?”

“Right. They’re gigantic.”

“Really tall?”

“Super-extra tall.”

“Twice as tall as a regular human?”

“No, no, Stick Dog. You’re not understanding giants at all,” Poo-Poo said with an understanding tone of voice. It sounded like he often had to explain the most obvious things to Stick Dog. “Giants are enormous. They’re taller than trees. Way taller than trees. Their heads get lost in the clouds sometimes.”
